Garden Lovers’ Plant Auction 2008

The excitement is building for the Garden Lovers’ Plant Auction. The evening
is a casual, fun event with wonderful food, fabulous auction items and a
collection of unique, one of kind plants.
The evening will begin with a Silent Auction at 6 p.m. followed by a Live
Auction at 7 p.m. We will feature approximately 40 rare plants and also about 12
non-plant items. The feature item of the evening will be an Outdoor Room, with
an Iron Arbor designed by New Market Iron Works owner Earl Burkett. Back by
popular demand will be a fishing excursion with Hadley Coan, a dinner for 20-25
at the Garden just perfect for a Supper Club, plus more wonderful surprises.

Herb Fair
October 4, The Arbor
The Herb Fair features many items made by members of the Huntsville Herb
Society, such as herb honey, lavender wands, jellies, chutneys, and catnip mice.
Many baked goods will also be available for purchase. Sleepy Owl Herb Farm and
other vendors will offer plants, gloves, statues, pots, books and other items.
The highlighted speaker is Joyce Harris of The Herbal Gourmet (www.theherbalgourmet.com),
based in Pennsylvania. After Joyce offers a short presentation on herbal teas,
each attendee will make two blends to their own taste. There will be a charge

Close Encounter with Birds of Prey
October 10, shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Boeing-Toyota Amphitheatre
Representatives from Save Our American Raptors in Chattanooga are bringing
some of our nations most majestic birds. Among their collection are three types
of owls, a Bald Eagle, a Red Tailed Hawk, an American Kestrel, a Harris’s Hawk,
and a Black Vulture. Learn more about these interesting creatures during the
lively and informative presentations. Watch as several of the birds take flight.
Shows are 45 minutes long. Admission to the show is included in admission to the
Garden (free to members).
Environmental Portrait Photography Workshop

Boeing Education Classroom
Tom and Pat Cory again bring their extensive knowledge and instruction to the
Garden. Beginning with classroom instruction, the workshop then travels outside
to practice photographing our models, both human and scarecrow! This class will
fill up fast, so call today to reserve your spot.

Children ages 5 & up are invited to join us to make their own Gingerbread
House. This will be a fun and creative experience.

Have you always wanted to make a Gingerbread House but just never took the
time? Join us at the Garden for our first workshop featuring Candace Garber as
facilitator. Candace has been making Gingerbread Houses for a number of years.
We are very excited to have her share her many secrets.
Freshly baked gingerbread and candy will be provided. If you would like to
bring your own specialty candies, we encourage you to do so. Refreshments will
be served.

Floral Workshop with Ron & Mark from In Bloom

Let the experts show you how to make your own wreath. They will share with you
their secrets in making a traditional, natural or lots of glitz style wreath.

Alabama First Lady, Patsy Riley, Book Signing

Join us as we welcome, Alabama First Lady Patsy Riley for the signing of her
new cookbook, "When the Dinner Bell Rings at the Governor’s Mansion", and sample some of her favorite recipes.
$35 for members, $40 for non-members. Fee includes a signed copy of the cookbook.

The Stroller Club for our youngest members and their moms meets
on the back deck behind the Tea Room. This group allows new mothers to have
company as they stroll through the Garden and enjoy the fresh air. It’s a great opportunity to
make new friends and get some exercise, too.
Stroller Club is free for members. Garden admission covers the cost for non-members.
